spotted gum

Spotted Gum

The tall, straight-trunked gum of the east coast. Hard, strong and quietly handsome, with a soft grey ripple through the grain.

Botanical name
Corymbia maculata
Colour
Pale brown to deep chocolate with a grey cast
Grain
Wavy, often with a subtle ripple; very hard and strong
Meaning
Steadfastness — a straight and standing tree

Spotted Gum takes its name from the dappled bark it sheds each year, leaving a smooth, mottled trunk that rises straight and high. It grows from southern New South Wales up the Queensland coast and is one of Australia’s strongest hardwoods.

On the rosary

The beads are firm and dense, with a colour that sits between honey and dark chocolate and a faint ripple that shows as the bead turns. It wears exceptionally well and suits a rosary meant for a pocket rather than a drawer.

Why we chose it

Straight, tall, unbending. Spotted Gum is the timber for the person who wants to stand firm.
